Humacao is located on east coast of Puerto Rico and home to Palmas del Mar, one of the largest master-planned resort developments in the Caribbean. Palmas des Mar essentially serves as its own neighborhood, with a mixture of full-time residents, locals who use their properties as vacation homes, and tourists. Palmas del Mar stretches over 2,750 acres of land, covering a 50-acre tropical rain forest, 32 residential neighborhoods, two 18-hole golf courses, a beach club, an equestrian center, and a k-12 private school. It’s big enough that the preferred mode of transportation within the grounds is a golf cart! Outside of Palmas del Mar, there are plenty of beaches and the 3,000-acre Humacao Nature Reserve. The municipality also includes two uninhabited cays, Cayo Batata and Cayo Santiago. Cayo Santiago, or Monkey Island, is home to more than 1,000 rhesus monkeys, and is maintained by the Caribbean Primate Research Center.
2,329 people live in Humacao, where the median age is 46.4 and the average individual income is $46,963. Data provided by the U.S. Census Bureau.
